on another thread, i read that a few adherents may be traveling (cough-cough) to other cities and wouldn't be able to make field service on christmas day.. what is the likelihood that going out on christmas will be encouraged at the weekend services at the khs?
...or do most halls stay neutral on this?
given what i've read on this forum, i have the impression that disrespecting a day of other's celebration wouldn't be discouraged which annoys the heck out of me..

hey folks...was talking to an friend on skype who's a jw.
she mentioned that she no longer has the zeal to do fs and meetings ect...if a jw confided in you, how would you handle it without rasing suspisions whilst at the same same trying to get them to think or even plant a few seeds?.
she says once she leaves the kh, she doesn't feel the desire to do anything spiritual and that her fs time has reduced...she also told me that she feels "lazy" in her worship to jehovah.. thanks.
Thank you guys...so I spoke with her a little more and told her she can feel free to speak to me and I'll be there for her...she added she feels sluggish in her service to Jehovah because she's not getting the encouragement that she wants ect...

had this conversion with my dad earlier today, hes an elder...both my parents were laid off during the recession, however, they saved and lived a decent life.
Spoke with my dad again...some of the things he relayed to me:
- Primarly unemployed, primarily because of the number of retirees, but also unemployment
- More pressure to donate
- No young brothers to take over from the aging elder body
- Younger brothers/sisters are going to college and moving to larger cities (he supports education despite being an elder)
- No growth in the Khall...been stagnant
- Concerened that not much young persons are there
I'm sure others are facing similar problems in their hall.

i was a chemical analyst.
i loved my job, and love chemistry.
i worked in a variety of fields such a pharmaceutical and industrial.
I've never pioneered and never will! It never appealed to me...I know folks who did just what you did, funds are drying up...can't get a job, hiding behind a smile like everything is ok....what a shame!

Thanks for your comments...I think time will tell, how much more of this crap my dad will cope with....I remmeber sometime ago, when I still lived at home, he threatened to resign as an elder because they expected him to do all the parts on the Service meeting, do all the F/S groups and purchase things for the Khall...just because he had a god job.
If my dad decides to throw the towels in, my mum would automatically follow despite being more hardcore thatn my dad...I'm hoping for a miracle...little by little I hope when conversing with him more I'll plant little seeds here and there.
Peace

i conducted an interview for a job last week......... kool jo: welcome to company "x", thank you for taking the time out to attend the interview session as scheduled.. jw applicant: thank you for the oppurtunity.. kool jo: you have an amazing resume, so tell me some more about yourself.... so i asked some traditional questions and then we get to point of the discussion pertaining to....you guessed it...work schedule.. kool jo: so in this industry, you have to be able to work varying hours/shifts ect...since you're going to be the rookie.. jw applicant: well i really love the oppurtunity and i've been unemployed for a while, but i have some questions...would i be able to get saturdays, sundays, and thursday evenings off?.
kool jo: i won't be able to guarantee you that...our clients can be quite demanding and we have to fit into their schedule.. jw applicant: well, the truth is, i'm one of jehovah's witnesses, and i have commitments that are very important to me, hence my reason for asking.. kool jo: (a big wtf moment)...i just pretended i didn't know a thing about jw's....so what happens if a client wants to meet with you on a saturday morning?.
jw applicant: well, i guess i'd have to come for work...you have no idea how happy i am to even be called for an interview.
Personally, when recruiting persons...I beleive that personality trumps qualifications. So this young lady doesn't have much qualifications, as a matter of fact she'll need on-the-job training....but she has a great smile and speaks very well...she ought to well with our clients.
She's been at work as required by her schedule...I hope it lasts...I wonder what will happen when her conventions come up? Also, we're big on Christmas celebrations for our clients...I wanna see how she'll handle it!

i'm from jamaica, montego bay to be exact.
if there are other jamaicans here, feel free to let me know.. with that said, it was announced at our last meeting (a letter was read) that the branch office (bethel) in kingston would be closing, and affairs would soon be directed from us hq.
now the branch office here is a large compound built on acres of prime real estate.
I know the Pelican restaurant too...I eat there prior to catching my flights.

Yes, I did offer her the job...I did feel sorry for her...being misled, being unemployed and as a single mom, Jehovah used an apostate to give her a job....nice going!
Yes, I guess she'll say at her next meeting...how she witnessed to the interviewer and gave a fine witness blah blah blah
